Trekking Distance: Approx. 10–14 km
Trekking Time: Approx. 6–8 hours
We begin before sunrise and climb steadily from Tilicho Base Camp toward Tilicho Lake, located at approximately 4,919 meters. The ascent is physically challenging because of the altitude, cold morning temperatures, and lower oxygen levels. We walk slowly, take regular breaks, and follow the guide’s instructions carefully. As we climb higher, the landscape becomes almost completely barren. Eventually, the spectacular waters of Tilicho Lake appear beneath the surrounding mountain walls.
Weather conditions can dramatically change the lake’s appearance, from bright turquoise under clear skies to a mysterious high-altitude basin surrounded by cloud and snow. After spending a suitable time at the lake, we descend toward Tilicho Base Camp and continue toward Shree Kharka. At Shree Kharka, the guide evaluates the group’s physical condition, altitude response, weather, trail conditions, and remaining daylight.
Overnight in Shree Kharka.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 10–14 km
Trekking Time: Approx. 5–7 hours
After breakfast, we continue from Shree Kharka toward the main Annapurna Circuit and make our way to Yak Kharka, situated at approximately 4,050 meters. The trail passes through dry mountain terrain, rocky slopes, and open alpine landscapes. As we reconnect with the main circuit, the route becomes more familiar and gradually leads toward the Thorong La section. The surrounding mountains remain impressive, while vegetation becomes increasingly sparse.
Because we are walking at high altitude, we maintain a slow pace and take regular breaks. Your guide monitors the group for signs of altitude sickness and adjusts the pace according to everyone’s condition. After reaching Yak Kharka, we settle into the lodge and rest. The afternoon is free for recovery, hydration, and preparation for the climb toward Thorong High Camp. Eat a nourishing meal, keep warm, and organize your equipment for the next day’s trek.
Overnight in Yak Kharka.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 8–10 km
Trekking Time: Approx. 5–6 hours
We leave Yak Kharka after breakfast and continue toward the highest section of the Annapurna Circuit. The trail gradually climbs through increasingly barren alpine terrain toward Ledar.
Vegetation becomes very limited, and dry ridges, glacial valleys, rocky slopes, and high mountain peaks dominate the landscape. We continue toward Thorong Phedi, the main staging point below Thorong La.
Depending on the group’s condition and the guide’s assessment, we may rest briefly at Thorong Phedi before continuing upward. From Thorong Phedi, the trail climbs steeply toward Thorong High Camp, near 4,900 meters. This final ascent can feel surprisingly difficult because of the altitude, even though it’s relatively short. We walk slowly and take frequent breaks. Your guide monitors everyone for symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion, or unusual weakness.
After reaching High Camp, we rest and avoid unnecessary activity. Dinner is served early, and we prepare carefully for tomorrow’s pass crossing. Keep warm clothing, headlamps, trekking poles, snacks, water, gloves, and sunglasses ready beside your bed.
Overnight at Thorong High Camp.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 14–16 km
Trekking Time: Approx. 8–10 hours
Today is the defining mountain day of the trek. We begin before sunrise and climb slowly toward Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit.
The early start matters because mountain winds often strengthen later in the day. It also provides sufficient daylight for the long descent toward Muktinath.
The climb is demanding because of the cold, thin air, steep terrain, and possible snow or ice.
We maintain a slow, steady rhythm and take short breaks rather than long stops. After several hours, we reach Thorong La. Prayer flags and a pass sign mark the summit, while dramatic Himalayan landscapes extend in every direction. This is an important achievement and a memorable moment of the journey. We spend a short time at the pass to take photos and rest before beginning the long descent toward Mustang.
The descent is steep in places and can be hard on the knees and legs, even though the oxygen level gradually improves. The landscape changes dramatically as we move from the Manang side to the dry Mustang region. Eventually, we reach Muktinath, one of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage destinations, respected by both Hindu and Buddhist communities. Depending on arrival time and energy, you may visit the sacred temple area, natural springs, or nearby religious sites.
Overnight in Muktinath.
Driving Time: Approx. 7–10 hours
After breakfast, we leave Muktinath and begin the long overland journey toward Pokhara.
The drive follows the dramatic Kali Gandaki Valley and gradually descends from Mustang’s dry, high-altitude landscapes into greener lower valleys. Depending on road conditions and vehicle arrangements, the route generally passes through areas around Jomsom, Marpha, Ghasa, Tatopani, and Beni before continuing toward Pokhara.
The journey offers a remarkable change in scenery. The barren cliffs and windswept slopes of Mustang gradually give way to pine forests, waterfalls, terraced farmland, subtropical vegetation, and warmer temperatures. The road can be rough and dusty in places, particularly between Muktinath and Beni. Construction, landslides, traffic, and weather may also affect the driving time. For this reason, today is treated as a full travel day. We may stop at suitable locations for refreshments, photographs, and short breaks.
Marpha is especially well known for its traditional stone houses, apple orchards, and mountain atmosphere if the route and schedule allow. In the evening, we reach Pokhara and transfer to our hotel in the Lakeside area. After several nights in remote mountain lodges, Pokhara provides a welcome change with comfortable accommodation, hot showers, restaurants, cafés, shops, and views of Phewa Lake.
Overnight in Pokhara.
Today is dedicated to sightseeing, relaxation, and recovery in Pokhara. After the demanding Tilicho Lake and Thorong La sections, this slower day allows you to enjoy the city without carrying a trekking pack or following a mountain schedule. Weather permitting, you may begin early with a visit to Sarangkot, one of Pokhara’s most popular Himalayan viewpoints.
From the hilltop, clear mornings can provide panoramic views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri ranges. After returning to the city, the sightseeing program may include the World Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, International Mountain Museum, and Phewa Lake.
You can arrange a boat ride on Phewa Lake, depending on your interests and energy level.
You may also enjoy a relaxed walk along the Lakeside waterfront, browse local shops, or spend time in one of the many cafés and restaurants. You don’t need to visit every attraction in one day. After a strenuous high-altitude trek, a balanced program of light sightseeing and rest is often the most enjoyable option.
Pokhara offers a completely different atmosphere from the mountain villages. Its lakeside setting, pleasant climate, gardens, restaurants, and Himalayan views make it an ideal place to conclude the trekking portion of the journey.
Overnight in Pokhara.
Driving Time: Approx. 7–9 hours
After breakfast, we leave Pokhara and head back to Kathmandu. The road follows Nepal’s scenic middle hills, passing through river valleys, terraced farmland, forested slopes, market towns, and traditional roadside settlements.
Although the distance between Pokhara and Kathmandu is not extremely long, travel time can vary because of traffic, road construction, weather, accidents, and highway conditions. We therefore treat today as a full travel day and keep the schedule flexible. Along the way, we may stop at suitable locations for refreshments, photographs, and short breaks.
As we approach Kathmandu, the landscape gradually becomes busier and more urban. Pokhara’s peaceful lakeside atmosphere gives way to the capital’s lively streets and historic surroundings. After you arrive in Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest, shopping, sightseeing, or enjoying a final evening in Nepal.
You may explore Thamel, purchase souvenirs, enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine, or relax at the hotel after completing the mountain section of the journey.
Overnight in Kathmandu.
Depending on your international flight time, you may enjoy a relaxed breakfast or spend your final hours in Kathmandu completing last-minute shopping and preparations. A representative from Ambassador Himalaya Treks & Expedition will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport.
